Here you can follow my stripbuilt kayak from Idéa to reality.
From the beginning my plans was to buy a glasfibre kayak, but when I start to look at kayaks on Internet I saw a stripbuilt kayak from One Ocean Kayaks, then my searching was over, it just had to be a stripbuil kayak.
After some research on the net I saw many beutiful kayaks, It seems like Guillemot and One Ocean Kayaks was in their own class, but of cause there were many others, even Swedish builder are very good.
Many Swedes build their kayaks in swedish spruce, Its very light in the color, But if I should put so many hours to build a kayak I want to do it with style. My choice was cedar, beutiful wood, many different colors and still not that heavy as swedish spruce.
In my research on the net I even found a programme to design the kayak by my self, but my feeling was that this was overkill, it would be fun if I can use it to paddle in the water also.
Ok there are many things that can go wrong even with a well tried construction, you have to built carefully. After a while a fall for One Ocean Kayaks " Cape Ann Storm" so I bought my drawings and off we goes. Still have some second thougths It was not like buying a kayak on the store where you can test it, but after some minutes I was sure, the size and the design was great.
Next step was to get some wood, Cedar is not a wood that grow in sweden so I called a company that import cedar from canada, I told him that I would like to have the wood in 6 meters legth. so after a month I got It.
Then It was just to begine..
